New Delhi, 19th February 2024: Turkiye marked its strong presence at the recently concluded 32nd edition of the New Delhi Book Fair, held at Pragati Maidan from February 10th to 18th. Conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture & Tourism of the Republic of Turkiye and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, the participation aimed at showcasing Turkish culture and literature while also fostering partnership opportunities between the publishing sectors of both countries.
The Türkiye National Stand featured approximately 2500 works, including prestigious publications from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkish literature works published in foreign languages with the support of the TEDA Project, as well as, current publications. Additionally, the national stand facilitated professional copyright negotiations, providing spaces for nine publishing houses from Türkiye to engage in discussions.
“The New Delhi Book Fair has been a remarkable platform for enhancing cultural ties between Turkiye and India. Our participation has not only showcased the richness of Turkish literature but also opened avenues for meaningful collaborations in the field of publishing. We are delighted to witness the positive response and look forward to deepening the cultural exchange between our two nations.”
Turkiye’s Ambassador to India, H.E. Firat Sunel
The New Delhi Book Fair served as a significant platform for promoting the TEDA project, initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2005. The project, which financially supports the translation and publication of Turkish literature into foreign languages, has seen success with 3878 works supported in 89 countries and 63 languages. Out of these, 3210 works have already been published and introduced to readers globally.
Turkiye participated in the fair for the first time in 1986. At her National Stand this year, Türkiye exhibits close to 2,500 works of literature, translated into several languages including languages spoken in India.
