01st June 2023: In a world where environment consciousness is a paramount of importance, The Ahilya Fort Heritage Hotel stands as an example of how sustainable practices can seamlessly blend with historical grandeur and modern luxury. Built on the banks of the sacred Narmada River, the heritage hotel has taken significant strides towards a greener future, leaving an indelible mark on the path to sustainable hospitality.
The Ahilya Fort Heritage Hotel’s most recent initiative is the implementation of a solar plant. This clean and green energy solar plant boasts a capacity of 77 kWp/70 kW AC, utilising 139 Premier Energies high-efficiency Mono PERC 550 WP, 144-cell solar panels, and 2 Sungrow String Inverters. The project was implemented by Godrej Electricals & Electronics, a division of M/s Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd, Mumbai with implementation partners M/s Innovative Energy Solutions, Ujjain. The project was completed in just 35 days and showcases the property’s unwavering commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and embracing renewable energy sources.
This visionary solar plant is expected to generate nearly 60% of the property’s energy consumption. Its remarkable impact extends beyond mere numbers as it fulfils the energy requirements of two electric cars, which means Hotel guests have a zero-emission transfer to the Hotel. By doing so, The Ahilya Fort Heritage Hotel is estimated to mitigate approximately 79,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions annually, truly making a difference in the fight against climate change.
“We are thrilled to inaugurate this state-of-the-art solar plant as part of our sustainability efforts. It represents a significant step towards our goal of reducing our carbon footprint and embracing clean energy sources. By powering a heritage property with modern sustainable energy, we hope to inspire others in the hospitality industry and beyond to contribute to a more sustainable future.”

But it doesn’t stop there, The Ahilya Fort Heritage Hotel invested in combating river water pollution, a pressing concern globally. The hotel property is a waste-water free property, which means that 100% of the water consumed at the hotel is treated in a DEWATs bio-treatment plant, and processed grey water is reused in the hotel gardens or to recharge local groundwater levels. These steps ensure no wastewater flows to the sacred Narmada River.
“Devi Ahilya Holkar was a pioneer in water conservation and management. She built stepwells, ghats, and micro-dams all over the country to preserve and protect water resources. Through our wastewater management program in Maheshwar, we take inspiration from her great example,”
Prince Yeshwantrao Holkar, Director, The Ahilya Fort Heritage Hotel

The property not only provides guests with an unforgettable experience but also paves the way for a greener, more sustainable world.
