Recognition of UG and PG degree programs in hospitality from JNU is a gift to all aspirants of hotel management

MOU was signed between National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Noida, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism with Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, today, at Institute of Hotel Management, Pusa, New Delhi. Vice Chancellor, JNU and Chief Executive Officer, NCHMCT signed the MOU on behalf of their respective organizations and exchanged the MOUs in the presence of Minister of Tourism, Culture & DoNER, Shri G. Kishan Reddy and Secretary (Tourism), Shri Arvind Singh.

The MOU is towards recognition of NCHMCT’s flagship UG and PG Degree programs in hospitality by the JNU, leading to award of Degrees to the pass-out students of NCHMCT run courses by JNU from 2023-24 academic year.

Addressing the media, Shri G. Kishan Reddy said that, NCHMCT is an institution that deserves getting affiliation. This is a gift specially for the aspirants of hotel management. He said that tourism sector was one of the hardest hit during COVID but now the sector is picking up. G20 meetings have helped in reviving Indian Tourism as around 250 meetings consisting of delegates from several countries  will be held across the country. 

The minister said that taking inspiration from Atithi Devo Bhava, a good impression of Indian hospitality can be made with all the participating countries of G20. The minister urged the students, NCHMCT and JNU, to undertake research towards branding of Tourism. He said that the Indian government has decided to open Tourism clubs in hotel management institutes and around 5000 such clubs have been started.

Secretary, Tourism ministry, Shri Arvind Singh said that the JNU has a proven track record of research and academic culture and been constantly ranked and regarded not only in the country but also at the global level. Students of IIHM will be benefited from this MoU as it will help in upgradation of overall academic inputs.

Senior officers of Ministry of Tourism, authorities from JNU, professionals from hotel/hospitality industry, academicians from the IHMs and students were present during the MOU signing.

NCHMCT an autonomous organization under Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India regulates academics in the field of hospitality education and training in the country through its affiliated IHMs spread across the country. Under the academic umbrella of NCHMCT, as on today, total 93 Institutes are affiliated.  Students enrolling into B.Sc. HHA and M.Sc. HA programs at these Institutes will be benefitted from this MOU. 

The B.Sc. HHA program is enriched with skill input, business input and managerial input required in the hospitality and other service industry. As such, the pass-outs are most demanded in the industry to deploy at Jr. Management, Supervisory and Operational level to begin with and goes to the top of the hospitality organizations in due course of time.

The M.Sc. HA, is enriched with management and research inputs. It is highly demanded by the candidates wanted to pursue their career at managerial level as well as wanted to be a teaching faculty in any hospitality institutes.

The IHMs under the Academic Umbrella of NCHMCT are ranked on the top in India and 14th in the World among the best Hospitality and Hotel Management Schools by “CEO World” of USA for the year 2021.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is the foremost University in India, and a world-renowned centre for teaching and research. Ranked number one in India by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a Grade Point of 3.91 (on a scale of 4), JNU was ranked No. 3 among all Universities in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Government of India, in 2016 and No. 2 in 2017. JNU also received the Best University Award from the President of India in 2017. JNU established by an act of Parliament in 1966, the strength, energy, and reputation of the University result from the vision that ideas are a field for adventure, experimentation and unceasing quest, and that diversity of opinions are the basis for intellectual exploration.

With the recognition of the UG & PG Degree Programs of NCHMCT by the JNU from 2023-24 academic year, students from IHMs under the academic umbrella of NCHMCT will be receiving the Degrees from JNU, which will immensely benefit them in better employment not only in India but across the globe and also enrolment into higher studies in foreign Universities. Also, the IHMs will be benefitted with better admission of Foreign Nationals and NRIs. The job prospects of these pass out will see a major step up in terms of better placements – both in India and abroad.
