Mumbai, Oct 17: The Hotel And Restaurant Association (Western India) – HRAWI conducted a highly informative seminar titled ‘Simplifying GST for the Hospitality Industry’ at The Emerald Park in Nashik on October 9th. The event brought together key stakeholders from the hospitality sector to delve into crucial aspects of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework that directly impact hotel and restaurant businesses. Aimed at promoting understanding and compliance within the industry, the seminar covered various aspects of GST, including recent updates, best practices for implementation and navigating the regulatory landscape effectively. With a focus on real-world scenarios and case studies, the seminar that witnessed an attendance of 26 hospitality professionals provided practical insights that attendees could immediately apply to their businesses.

The seminar was inaugurated by Mr Sanjay Chavan, President and Mr Shridhar Shetty, General Secretary of the Association of Bar Hotels and Restaurants, Nashik. Also present were Mr Dilip Kothari, Executive Member of HRAWI, Mr Tej Takle, Executive Member and City Coordinator, Nashik. The key speaker of the event was CA Jinit Shah whose expertise shed light on the complexities of GST and its practical implications for the hospitality sector.

Through interactive sessions, attendees had the opportunity to address their queries directly to the expert speaker, enhancing their knowledge and clarifying doubts related to GST compliance. CA Jinit Shah shared valuable insights tailored for hotels, including a detailed breakdown of room tariffs and the applicable GST rates. Attendees received expert guidance on scenarios such as the provision of extra beds, usage of hotel utilities like laundry services and consumption from in-room mini-fridges, among other pertinent topics. Mr Shah’s expertise illuminated the complexities of these scenarios, providing practical solutions for seamless GST compliance within the hospitality industry.

The Hotel And Restaurant Association (Western India) – HRAWI is a 72 years old Association of Hotels and Restaurants in Western India. Its members include Restaurants and Hotels up to 5-Star Deluxe categories. With membership base spread across Western India, HRAWI covers Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa and Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and is considered to be the voice of the hospitality Industry. The association is part of the national body of the Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), located in New Delhi, which was originally founded in Mumbai in 1950 by the late Mr J.R.D. Tata.
