The Alila Diwa Goa was the first hotel in Goa to set up an automated sustainable drinking water bottling facility on its premises. With the support of this “Zero Mile Water” programme, the property has been able to eliminate over 350,000 single-use plastic bottles each year, lower carbon emissions by over 50 tonnes, and provide clean, alkaline water to our guests in sealed, sterilized glass bottles. Moreover, the “Zero Mile Water” program works on the circular economy principle, thereby not only cutting down on plastic waste but also eliminating carbon emissions involved in transporting the bottles. Additionally, large format bath amenities are used across all rooms – Brass dispensers and Marble dispensers and no single use plastic amenities are used. By utilising biodegradable materials, Alila Diwa Goa is proud to promote sustainable tourism and lessen its carbon footprint. Using mostly local resources and cooperating with the environment to protect native ecosystems, the resort takes great effort to reduce its environmental impact.

Some of the other sustainability initiatives undertaken include using sprinklers to irrigate the lawn, using recycled water (STP water) to flush the toilets in guest rooms, building cooling towers and gardening. The property also composts all kitchen waste in-house, and the manure is used for gardening for both the hotel’s needs and to help the neighbourhood farms as well.

“At the foundation of Alila’s design and architectural approach is “harmony” and “minimalism.” Each Alila hotel is designed in harmony with the environment, preserving the extraordinary natural beauty of the destination and supporting the local community. At Alila, we create spaces for guests to think, to breathe, and to restore.

And our purpose at Hyatt is to care for people so they can be their best. This includes helping the communities where we do business by taking care of the environment. While we craft extraordinary experiences for our guests at Alila Diwa Goa, we also care for our people, our planet and responsible tourism. We have accomplished many initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint and voiced its firm commitment toward sustainable development and protecting the environment.” – Suveer Sodhi, General Manager, Alila Diwa Goa.
