New Delhi, Jan 15: The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), India’s apex body and voice of the hospitality industry, has extended its congratulations to the Government at the Centre and the state Government of Maharashtra on the inauguration of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) officially known as Atal Setu. The engineering marvel, now the longest sea bridge in India, signifies a monumental leap forward in the country’s infrastructure development. Stretching an impressive 21.8 kilometres (13.5 miles), the Atal Setu is an engineering masterpiece that promises to revolutionize transportation in the region. The FHRAI recognizes the profound impact this project will have on the nation’s connectivity and applauds the Government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure on a grand scale.

Presided over by the Hon’ble Prime Minister – Shri Narendra Modi, the inauguration of Atal Setu on January 12th, 2024, marked a significant milestone for India’s infrastructure landscape.

“The inauguration of the Atal Setu is a watershed moment for India’s infrastructure development. As the longest sea bridge in the country, it not only enhances Mumbai’s connectivity but also symbolizes the nation’s commitment to pushing boundaries in engineering excellence. It is poised to transform not only Mumbai’s landscape but also provide an unprecedented boost to tourism in Maharashtra. With improved connectivity, we foresee a significant surge in tourist footfall to Mumbai’s neighbouring tourism destinations like Lonavala, Matheran, Alibaug, Mahabaleshwar and other scenic locales across the State,”

Pradeep Shetty, President, FHRAI

This transformative project is expected to have far-reaching implications, attracting tourists and boosting the hospitality industry. The FHRAI believes that the sheer magnitude of MTHL’s engineering prowess will become a tourist attraction in itself, drawing visitors from around the country to experience the marvel.

“The MTHL is more than just a bridge; it is a testament to India’s capability to undertake and execute large-scale infrastructure projects. Additionally, the travel experience offered by Atal Setu will not only attract domestic tourists but also position Mumbai as a gateway to explore the rich cultural and natural treasures of Maharashtra. The enhanced accessibility to these destinations will stimulate economic growth and contribute to the tourism sector’s vitality. As tourists explore the diverse attractions within Maharashtra, there will be a multiplier effect on the local economy. Small businesses, hospitality establishments and local artisans stand to benefit, amplifying the positive impact on the overall economic landscape of the State,”
