● How does your workplace embrace equality?
Traditionally the maritime industry has long been a male oriented industry. However at M2M Ferries we make sure we are an equal opportunity provider. Our 1st Chief Engineer on board was a woman who sailed with the ship from Greece to India. Thereafter the key roles in the company are anchored by women. Head of customer service, Head of Commercials, Head of Strategy and Human Resources are all driven by women. We are proud to say we are here breaking stereotypes for the maritime industry.
● As a woman, how do you make sure that you embrace equality? When you are the decision maker how do you make sure you are not gender biased?
Coming from a family where girls and now women are given equal opportunity, embracing equality comes to us naturally . We believe in an open door policy and are always open to ideas and suggestions by anyone across the team.
● Do you believe that gender inclusive policies are justified with an increasing number of women in the industry while still not being a 50% strength or close?
While we are all for promoting women in maritime, the challenge we face is that women represent only 1.2% of the global seafarer workforce. Communities have to come together to empower women to join the maritime training and later contribute to the maritime workforce. We encourage women in all the possible roles that are offered however the skillset is lacking due to the absence of training of women in the maritime workforce. We have women contributing in every other aspect such as strategy, commercials, customer experiences, sales and marketing.
