The Residence Maldives
The Residence Maldives is committed to sustainable practices, minimising its carbon footprint. The food waste is turned into compost for the on-site Earth Basket kitchen gardens. Headed by a Green Committee, these kitchen gardens grow pesticide-free produce which is used in kitchens and spas. The Earth Basket programme also offers guests workshops and culinary classes to help them learn about sustainable living and experience the local cuisines of the destination. A dedicated team conducts audits across departments to reduce waste, use of renewable energy sources, such as solar panels installed on Falhumaafushi island, and smooth functioning of on-property bottled drinking water.
Shangri-La Muscat
Shangri-La Muscat has a long-term commitment to the environment. It is working towards eliminating the use of single use plastic to create a sustainable sanctuary for all. It uses refilled water bottles in rooms and there are water fountains around the resort to reduce the use of plastic bottles.
The resort’s private beach is home to different species of turtles and one of the nesting sites. It runs a Turtle Care Project that aims to protect the endangered hawksbill and green turtle species. A ranger looks after nests and protects them from potential threats. Guests are invited to daily Turtle Talks at the hotel’s Eco Centre to learn more about the turtle conservation. Between March and September, when hundreds of turtles return to the resort’s beach to lay eggs, guests including children are invited to witness the egg hatchings.
The Anam Vietnam
The Anam Mui Ne in Vietnam began operations with a commitment towards sustainability and eco-conscious practices. It has posed a ban on single-use plastics along with other measures to reduce its carbon footprint that include use of solar power and locally sourced ingredients. It recycles the laundry water to water its gardens. Straws, bags, and bathroom amenities are biodegradable. The resort’s eco-friendly key cards are also made from wood that’s been sourced from sustainably managed forests.
The Anam Cam Ranh has dedicated 8,500 square metres to grow an array of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and rear chicken and ducks. These are used in meals served to guests at Lang Viet Restaurant & Bar as well as at the staff kitchen. In addition to ducks and chickens, the farm also rears geese, rabbits, goats, guinea fowls, turkeys, and peacocks. Children are invited to visit the farm as part of a supervised tour to learn more about sustainable farming.
