How does your workplace embrace equality?
It’s extremely important to have an inclusive work environment in the workspace, especially in our restaurant business which is so male dominated. We make it a point to have a monthly roundup with our entire team where we can have more open dialogue and genuine feedback to ensure everyone’s voice is being heard. We’re also super transparent about wages, to ensure there’s no gender pay gap in equivalent roles.
As a woman, how do you make sure that you embrace equality? When you are the decision maker how do you make sure you are not gender biased?
As a woman, embracing equality means empowering myself and those around me to have an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of their gender or identity. It’s key to not adhere to gender stereotypes, especially when we’re looking for new people to join our organisation. Across our restaurants we have women bartenders, chefs, stewards, captains taking over key responsibilities and being brilliant at it.
Do you believe that gender inclusive policies are justified with an increasing number of women in the industry while still not being a 50% strength or close?
While there may not yet be a 50/50 gender split in the industry, progress towards gender parity should be a continuous goal and gender-inclusive policies can help to achieve this. It is important to recognise that achieving gender equality is not only a moral imperative but also beneficial for business success, as diverse and inclusive workplaces have been shown to increase innovation and profitability.
