  • With respect to GRM’s guest room management system the AC system stays on energy-saving mode until the guests enter the room
  • Bathroom Amenities are packed in water-soluble, biodegradable pouches
  • Implemented a zero-wastage policy in which ingredients are used to their full potential

Punish B Sharma

VP – Operations, THE FERN HOTELS & RESORTS

Meluha, The Fern, an ecotel hotel has been at the forefront of environment preservation since its inception. For us, environmental protection is a way of life. Sustainability has gained immense importance today across all walks of life. However, we have been following it from the very beginning. The idea is to preserve and protect the world which we inhabit.

As far as damage caused by the plastic pollution is concerned, we have been adhering to very strict norms to eliminate the use of plastic. Our hotel is virtually plastic free from the start. We provide water in glass bottles to our guests in their rooms as well as in the restaurants. I feel education has played an important role in creating awareness about the hazards of plastic pollution. Today the public is extremely concerned about the ill effects of pollution and are doing their bit.  We as a hotel have created SOPs to ensure that the sustainability norms are followed perfectly inside our hotels. We have created an eco-consciousness among our fellow workers.

Allen Machado

CEO, Niraamaya Wellness Retreats & Business Group

As an ardent advocate for preserving our planet’s natural beauty, Niraamaya Retreats has embarked on an incredible journey of sustainable practices, making a profound difference.

One of the most impactful steps taken by Niraamaya is our wholehearted decision to bid adieu to plastic bottles within our premises. The awareness of the devastating consequences caused by single-use plastic bottles has led us to explore alternative solutions that align with our vision of a greener future. Stepping into a Niraamaya Retreat, you will find yourself greeted by eco-friendly options, such as refillable glass bottles or sustainable packaging, encouraging a shift towards a more responsible and conscious approach to consumption.

In addition to this, Niraamaya Retreats has embarked on regular clean drives, joining hands with local communities and organizations to keep our natural habitats free from plastic pollution. These clean drives go beyond the confines of the retreats and extend to neighbouring beaches, forests, and other vulnerable areas. By actively involving the local community, we nurture a profound sense of collective responsibility, fostering a culture of environmental consciousness that reaches far beyond our retreats. These clean drives not only make a tangible impact on the environment but also serve as a powerful medium to spread awareness among guests and the broader community about the dire consequences of plastic pollution. Through these initiatives, Niraamaya Retreats ignites a spark of change within everyone, inspiring others to take action and be the change-makers our planet needs.

● Smart water management: Treated water from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is used for cooling towers and toilet flushes, while stainless-steel amenity dispensers minimise plastic waste.

● Bringing the outdoors in: Indoor plants adorn the hotel spaces, replacing flowers as decorations, reducing waste without compromising aesthetics.

● Energy-conscious practices: Guests are encouraged to “Switch Off as you go” and timers control external lighting. Rooms are concentrated on specific floors to minimise energy usage.

● Smart preventive maintenance: Regular preventive maintenance keeps equipment in optimal condition, enhancing efficiency and reducing waste.

● Smart sensors: Motion sensors in corridors and restrooms balance convenience and eco-consciousness.

● Rainwater harvesting: The hotel practices rainwater harvesting. It has also connected the terrace and swimming pool area’s water to a nearby culvert thereby diverting the water from the property.

O by Tamara showcases the power of conscious choices in the fight against plastic pollution. As the world grapples with the consequences of our actions, the hotel serves as a testament to the positive impact an establishment can make in preserving our environment.

Mehul Sharma,

Founder & CEO – Signum Hotels

As the world continues to grapple with the devastating effects of plastic pollution, it has become increasingly important for companies and individuals alike to take action. On this year’s World Environment Day, Signum Hotels took up the challenge by implementing several initiatives aimed at beating plastic pollution. From distributing saplings to completely banning single-use plastics, these efforts are a testament to their commitment towards creating a more sustainable future. Join us as we dive into these inspiring actions taken by Signum Hotels in honour of World Environment Day!

The global issue of plastic pollution has reached a critical point, with millions of tons of plastic waste polluting our oceans and harming marine life. The situation is dire, but it’s not too late to make a change. This year’s World Environment Day theme was “Beat Plastic Pollution,” highlighting the urgent need to take action against this growing problem. Mehul Sharma, Founder & CEO – Signum Hotels says “At Signum Hotels, we recognize that we have a role to play in reducing our environmental impact. We have taken several steps towards beating plastic pollution, including banning single-use plastics such as straws and water bottles across all our properties. We’ve also implemented an education campaign for staff and guests alike on the importance of reducing plastic usage. By raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste on our planet, we hope to inspire others to join us in taking meaningful action. Together, we can beat plastic pollution and create a cleaner, healthier world for generations to come!”

Signum Hotels took crucial initiatives on World Environment Day by distributing seed saplings to their guests and employees. This was a small but significant step towards promoting a greener environment and spreading awareness about the benefits of planting more trees. Seed sapling distribution is an excellent way to encourage people to take responsibility for the environment. By distributing these saplings, Signum Hotels aimed at inspiring everyone to contribute positively towards nature conservation, which is the need of the hour. The hotel staff also provided instructions on how best to plant and care for these saplings so that they could grow into beautiful trees in the future. It’s essential that we not only plant new trees but also nurture them so that they can thrive in our ecosystem. Additionally, this initiative has helped create a sense of responsibility amongst guests and staff members towards maintaining a healthy balance between human activity and environmental sustainability. The importance of tree plantation cannot be emphasized enough as it helps combat air pollution, soil erosion, and global warming while providing shade, and oxygenation among other benefits. Seed Sapling distribution proved out successful with many encouraging comments from grateful guests who were glad to receive such thoughtful gifts during their stay at Signum Hotels.
